Tony Goncalves is the founder of The Evrose Group, a growth strategy and transformation advisory firm serving global media, tech, and entertainment executives and businesses. At the heart of the firm’s mission is a commitment to elevate and scale Portuguese businesses and leaders—an ambition rooted in the founder’s desire to integrate his decorated career in media with his Portuguese heritage. Goncalves launched The Evrose Group in service of bridging Portugal's burgeoning arts, media, and technology sectors with business opportunities in the U.S. The company leverages Goncalves’ extensive senior leadership experience at WarnerMedia and AT&T, alongside his strategic acumen, operational expertise, and expansive network, to deliver immediate impact to clients.
The Evrose Group provides strategic advisory services to several prominent companies, including Portugal’s leading media conglomerate Grupo Impresa, Porto-based next-gen media measurement company Mediaprobe and investment firm Arrow Global. As a testament to the firm’s mission, Goncalves orchestrated a landmark partnership in early 2024, bringing together New York-based Tribeca Enterprises, Portuguese broadcaster SIC, its streaming platform OPTO, and the City of Lisbon to launch the inaugural European edition of the Tribeca Festival. Now celebrating its second year, Goncalves serves as executive producer of the Tribeca Festival Lisboa.
Tony serves as creator, producer and host to The Heart & Hustle of Portugal, an English language podcast in Portugal, a first for the nation’s leading news organization, Expresso. Now in its third season, the series features conversations with cultural icons, industry leaders, creators and visionaries celebrating the spirit of Portugal around the world.
Goncalves has been at the forefront of the media and entertainment industries’ evolution and generational shifts. He is recognized for pioneering significant advancements in streaming, launching market-defining products, and driving transformative change during large complex business integrations.
Prior to The Evrose Group, Tony held a dual role at WarnerMedia as Chief Revenue Officer and CEO of Otter Media. During this time, he led the launch of streamer, HBO Max and oversaw $20 billion in annual revenue across WarnerMedia’s advertising sales, network/streaming distribution, and content licensing businesses. He successfully operated several early-stage media ventures at Otter Media, guiding them to billion-dollar valuations and acquisitions, including Japanese anime streamer Crunchyroll, acquired by Sony for $1.2 billion, and Reese Witherspoon’s media company, Hello Sunshine, acquired by Blackstone for over $900 million.
Earlier in his career, Goncalves served as an AT&T Officer and Senior Vice President of Strategy and Business Development, where he oversaw a $14 billion capital budget and led the PayTV industry’s pivot into streaming video with the launch of DIRECTV NOW. He grew as an executive at DIRECTV, where, through various leadership roles, he founded the company’s digital products organization, spearheaded its transition to streaming, and managed several investments and its integration with AT&T. He oversaw a $4 billion portfolio and drove 25% of the company’s annual subscriber acquisitions.
Goncalves serves as board chair for Upwardly Global, a New York-based organization that helps skilled immigrants build careers in the U.S. He has been named to Variety's "500 Entertainment Leaders & Icons" list for three consecutive years. He is a member of Portugal’s Conselho da Diaspora (Diaspora Council) and serves as a mentor through Lisbon-based The Unicorn Factory and the Hynes Institute for Entrepreneurship and Innovation at his alma mater, Iona University.
